Kaitlyn's Approach to Therapy

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and supervisor in Virginia and New York. I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling from Capella University and my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Christopher Newport University. I am also a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

I began my career working at an outpatient treatment facility providing both mental health and addiction treatment. I worked with clients involved with the court system, Child Protective Services, Department of Social Services, Probation/Parole, and other local community supports. I began working with Keystone Therapy Group in early 2022 and have truly enjoyed the practice and the clients we serve.

I am passionate about treating individuals and couples from an attachment-based, trauma-informed perspective and use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) as my primary model of therapy. In addition to the continuous research supporting EFT, there are many things I love about this model including my role of coming along side you as we work towards deeper understanding and healing both individually and in relationships.

I am a military spouse (Army) and grew up as a military child (Air Force) so I have personal experience with the unique struggles of military life and transitions. I have lived in numerous states across the country as well as Japan and Germany. I have lived in the NOVA area off-and-on since 2006.

Kaitlyn's Approach to Clinical Supervision

Being a therapist requires a willingness to learn. Being a good therapist requires a willingness to grow. Being a great therapist requires full engagement in all aspects of their journey while maintaining a focus on their clients. At Keystone, we believe that if our clinicians are supported, encouraged, and empowered, our clients will naturally receive high-quality care.

I approach supervision through the person-of-the-therapist model, holding ethical knowledge and behavior in the highest regard. My supervision integrates direction, when needed, and processing to help clinicians make the best possible clinical decisions. In supervision, we will review client tapes, reflect on clinician experiences, brainstorm ideas for handling difficult issues, and more. Growing as a therapist, especially early in your career, can be daunting, but with collaborative, compassionate supervision, I believe all therapists can grow to effect significant change in our clients’ lives.
